Quantum made simple

  • CNRS
  • Animation

Contributing to the dissemination of knowledge in quantum physics.

Twenty-five animations, in French and English, to understand the key principles and foundations of quantum physics, from concepts like wave-particle duality to “magnetic frustration,” including the operation of scanning tunneling microscopes.

  • 7 videos in 2012 on the basics of quantum physics,
  • 6 videos in 2014 on quantum research,
  • 6 videos in 2016 on microscopy,
  • 6 videos in 2021 on magnetism.

This project was initiated by Julien Bobroff, a physicist and science communicator specializing in superconductivity, magnetism, quantum physics, and condensed matter physics. Together with Frédéric Bouquet, he founded the research group “Physics Reimagined” at the Solid State Physics Laboratory of the University of Paris-Saclay and CNRS, which focuses on developing new ways to present physics and research to the public.

These videos are all accessible on YouTube via the “Physics Reimagined” channel and are regularly used as teaching materials in high schools and universities. They also illustrate numerous Wikipedia articles, in both French and English, including Wikipedia page on Bose-Einstein Condensate.

The music for each video is custom-composed by Pierre Lemerle, known as Lao Experiment on stage.

This project is funded by CNRS, Labex Palm, Triangle de la Physique, the French Physical Society, Paris-Sud University, Sciences à l’École, and ICAM.
