Principles of Biostatistics

A video to understand the concepts of causality in epidemiology.

The image showcases a modern, minimalist 3D rendering featuring geometric shapes arranged on a black and white striped background. A bright red sphere sits prominently in the foreground, contrasting sharply with the monochromatic setting. Behind it, a gray cube and several white cylindrical shapes are positioned, casting subtle shadows that add depth to the composition. The overall style is clean and abstract, emphasizing simplicity and geometric forms.

Next to it: an excerpt/teaser from the course material created for medical students.

The goal is to illustrate biostatistical concepts used in epidemiological research, with population simulations.

This is not strictly popular science, but rather an aid for students to understand complex concepts related to the study of disease risk factors.

The video illustrates difficult but key concepts such as association (and strength of association), confounding, and interaction (in additive and multiplicative models), visually varying the composition of populations to show the impact on ratios and disparities.
