Animation created for the Cognitive Sciences Forum.

A minimalist and abstract theme, featuring a stark contrast between the dark background and the vibrant, warm-toned design elements. The central motif is a stylized, curvilinear shape that resembles a wave or a flame, rendered in shades of orange and red. The design is simple yet dynamic, with smooth, flowing lines that create a sense of movement and energy. The use of a limited color palette and bold, flat shapes contributes to a modern and impactful visual style.

Visualizing consciousness as an emerging phenomenon.

Video created for the Cognitive Sciences Forum – PARIS 2013 – Cognivence Association.

Through this short animation, we attempt to explain the conditions of consciousness and its altered states. Consciousness requires the simultaneous activity of two “things” to be effective.

To be conscious, both cortical functions must be activated, and so must the state of wakefulness.

Deactivate wakefulness, and you become unconscious, in sleep.
Make cortical functions inefficient but keep wakefulness active: this is a vegetative state.

Deactivate both: this is brain death.
